Tourism awards, Wentworth Show, Mini Agfair Day and more

Hello all,

It’s real woodcutting weather isn’t it! And again it only takes a few points to make a dirt road really tricky. We have substantial evidence to say the Cobb Highway will soon have sealing started, and WILL CONTINUE!

What an asset that will be. The Tourism Awards went off very well in Broken Hill over the weekend, and a big congratulations to Deniliquin. I believe they took out the major Award, and of course congratulations to our local “Warrawong on the Darling”, just up and running and getting nominated.

Red Opal Cafe, Outback Tourism Awards

Hello everyone,

Who had ever heard of “feels like temperature” before now! Maybe I’m getting soft. They had the hide to say there’s another cold front coming through!!

Almost all roads are open, will only take 3 ¾ points to close most of them though. However, isn’t there a lot of activity everywhere. Travellers that is, and heaps for you all to take in.

Thanks heaps Randel for correcting my Opal Festival last week, you’ve got to keep an eye on me.

Before I forget, the Red Opal Cafe is closed in White Cliffs this week only. Meanwhile if you are in Menindee then the Beyond Cafe is still doing Sunday afternoon “smokos” compliments of the Central School kids, home cooked goodies till the end of the month.

Broken Hill is the place to be next weekend, Outback Tourism Awards on Saturday night, who’s gonna win? Strong competition too. You know how you can’t be in Broken Hill without going to Silverton, well you just can’t miss out on going out to the RFDS Base either. Wonderful people, sit in a theatrette and hear and see the Flying Doctor story and actually see how it really happens. Some really good souvenirs there for you as well. (I’m eternally grateful to spellcheck). So keep that in mind when passing through “the Hill”.

Opal Festival etc

Good morning all,

And we thought it was cold a few weeks ago!! God save us this is ridiculous! Little bit of rain around as well. I think you got a bit up Bourke way the way they were speaking.

Not a lot happening in the really cold weather anywhere as I can make out.

White Cliffs is holding up its end this week with the Opal Festival on the 17th. to 19th. That’s next weekend, you’ve got time to make it. And those guys up there will make it worth your while.

UPDATE

Community Markets, Picnic Train, etc.

Hello all,

Cold as charity but the roads are drying out nicely and I’m sure you are all able to make your various destinations by now.

The “calendar of events” is rather small this week, with the big event being the Milparinka week end. I’m sure it would have been a great success with fine weather, and I’m sure plenty of campfires!

We had the end of an era this weekend in Wilcannia when we handed Miss Barrett’s Coffee Shop over to Julie Murphy from Bourke. She had her first bus load in yesterday for afternoon tea and did an excellent job. So be sure to drop in and meet Julie and enjoy her new style of coffee shop. And thanks heaps to all of you who dropped in and supported Chris and I over the years.

Coming up: We have the Community Markets in Broken Hill next Saturday 8 AM to 1 PM if you are anywhere about.

Ducking up to White Cliffs, we have the Opal Festival taking place the following weekend the 17th. to 19th. a full weekend there and plenty to do.

The Picnic Train is running, again in Broken Hill. This is on Sunday 19th. if you’re not in White Cliffs.  Have to be a fun day to be at.
