Great weather, Picnic Races, River Cruises, and more

Hello all,

Great weather, people going everywhere, it’s all happening. Had a lovely lady through town the other day, walking from Perth to Sydney, her husband chose the car! Another lovely girl here last night, heading off this morning riding a bike from Sydney to Darwin. If you see either on the road stop and say Hi.

Now, the agenda for the week, Picnic Races in Cobar next Saturday, if you’re a racing fan try and be there. If you’re in Broken Hill on the 27th. then Tri State Safari’s is running a 2 day Opal Dreaming Tour to White Cliffs, you’re in good hands with Mick and Jo. Also on next weekend, is the “Back O Bourke Boar Buster”, a 3 day weekend there, River Cruise on the Sunday, Poetry on a Plate with Hully, it’s all happening up at Bourke.

Broken Hill, the next weekend, the 4th. Sept. (us blokes get a pressie that day!), there’s the Country Music Father’s Day Muster at the Silverton Hotel. Guarantee you Peter and Patsy will give you a great time.

Also, that weekend of Father’s Day, there is a “Father’s Day Fishing Comp” at Menindee. Water in the river, more coming down, no doubt the fish will be biting.

Moving on out, also at Menindee, is the big “Rugby League Knock Out” on Saturday 17th. early start and a full day of football.

I have had a flyer from Cathryn at the Wentworth Visitors centre, on a Photo Comp. Ran by the Western LLS. Well worth a look at, and free entry. The flyer is attached, so all you keen photographers, here’s a chance to have a bit of fun and maybe a bit of prize money!

Desert Peas, Underground Art Festival, dry roads, and more

Good morning all,

Hope you are all making the best of these fantastic days. And heaps more to come next week, in fact you can turn off the heaters this coming week and enjoy 24/25 degrees, dry roads, clear skies.

If you are down Hay way, the “Highway to Hell” Challenge is on starting from Hay at 9 AM next Saturday. Their first one, Hay to Ivanhoe in memory of Bill Baird the extraordinary mailman. If you’re about, have some fun and support them.

Then the Cobar Picnic Races are on the next weekend, that’s a big day on the 27th. in Cobar, and heaps more to see in the “copper” town while you’re there.

If you’re still up in Bourke though, you can take in the “Back-o-Bourke Boar Buster” on that same weekend, 26/28th. Heaps going on at Bourke that weekend and you can have a River Boat Cruise on the Sunday, how good is that! Still at Bourke, there’s a week of “1000 Stories” from 3rd. to 10th. Sept.

Now don’t forget, further out in ‘the sticks’ is “The Broken Heel Festival”, a really big show in the Silver City, on 9-10-11th. Sept.

Mixed in among all that, if you’re in Menindee, then they have a wopping big “Fishing Challenge” on the weekend of the 3-4th. September. You can toodle around to surrounding areas then and end up back at Menindee for their big Rugby League Knock-out Carnival on 17th. Sept. Early start too.

Stretching out a bit, but don’t forget the “Underground Art Festival” at White Cliffs, big annual event, 23/25th. Sept.

Weather, ivanhoe centre of things, and more

Hello all,

I’ll have another go at the weather! Could be a bit of a shower on Tuesday, otherwise all good for the week.

The 2 big events this weekend went off really well I believe. Had reports from both Louth Races and the Nyngan Ag-Expo, jolly good shows.

Ivanhoe is the centre of attraction again next week too. The Ivanhoe Quick Shear is next week’s attraction, at the RSL Club.

Tri State Safari’s in Broken Hill also have some tour specials on the go, with discounted tours to Mootwingee tomorrow (you’ve probably missed it!), but another one Tuesday, as well as a Loop Tour. I think you’d have to be quick for that though.

Had a few phone calls checking if Sturts Desert Pea is about at all. Well we went for a drive today, (Sunday) and sure enough they are about 3 or 4 inches high out around Dry Lake. For those enthusiasts that use “Navmans” or the like, there’s a great patch at Lat. South 31.3803, and long. East 143.1933. See how good you are!

They won’t be flowering till another few weeks though me thinks.

Oh, by the way, there’s a “Highway to Hell challenge” on starting in Hay on the 20th. to celebrate old Mr. Baird’s service to the Ivanhoe community. $10- entry fee and a load of fun, Hay to Ivanhoe.

Looking ahead now we have the White Cliffs “Underground Art Festival” coming up on the 23-25th. September, and the Ivanhoe Rodeo, coming up also on the 24th. Sept.

The Louth Races, Nyngan Ag Expo, Broken Heel Festival and more

Good morning everyone,

Thanks for the week off, great to be back again and heaps going on.

Suffice to say, all roads are open at the moment but as you know our weather is ‘predictably unpredictable’ to say the least.

Seems to be heaps happening this next week, with two ‘big ticket’ items in “The Louth Races” next Saturday and would you believe the ‘Nyngan Ag Expo’ on the same day! Two great events with a history of success, so take your pick but try and be at one of them.

Now again next Saturday, there’s a Trivia night at the Ivanhoe youth Centre, but the next Saturday (13th.) is the ‘Annual Ivanhoe Quick Shear’, again a blue ribbon event for the district, and it’s at the RSL Club.

If you’re around the White Cliffs area, those people up there can keep you entertained, Monday table tennis, Tuesday is Art, Thursday is Indoor Bowls, and Friday is Craft at The Red Earth. You caravaners would have to find something to suit there! Then have tea at the Store with Honor.

Travelling Bourke way? River Cruises every day, fantastic camp oven meals with Hully (Poetry on a Plate) at night, info and “things” for miles at the Info. Centre and Jenny’s Gallery. History everywhere at Bourke.

Special mention, and my congratulations to ‘first time nominees’ and Award winners, Peter and Patsy at the Silverton Pub, well done you two. Winners of awards as well was Eldee Station, Outback Astronomy, and Tri State Safari’s. Well done all. Great to see the awards coming in our own area.
