Broken Hill Comedy Festival, Wentworth World Wide Knit, and more

Good morning all,

Hope you are all enjoying the really great travelling weather we are having. Bright sunshine, you wouldn’t be dead for quids!

Met up with a host of great people at Warrawong on the Darling last Wednesday night and had a great evening. It’s definitely true, a stranger is only a friend you haven’t yet met.

Now speaking of Warrawong, Tri state Safari’s have a heap of specials going at the moment. With trips to the Simpson Desert, Lake Eyre and many more. Call to their Argent St. office in the Hill and they will explain all.

Whilst in Broken Hill, remember the Melbourne Comedy Festival is coming to the Museums Club on the 5th. June, great night out for all.

Then the next weekend, you have the “Wentworth World Wide Knit” happening down there on the 9th. June, the Louth Field day is also on the same day the 9th. And the Ivanhoe pig Comp. is being held on the 10th. Big weekend around the far west.

If you are heading for the ‘inside country’ then try and make it to the Merriwa Farm and Safety Expo, but hurry up it’s on next Wednesday.

Back in our own little town, we have the Wilcannia Motel now under new management, and Deidre is offering free WI-FI to all patrons as well as being pet friendly, drop in and have a look. Of course if you are in a van that won’t work so you need to stop over at either Warrawong on the Darling, or Victory Caravan Park just over the bridge. Lovely people at both to look after you. Best Chinese meal you will find anywhere at our Golf Club and of course a courtesy bus from either place each night. Have a lazy morning then and try a leisurely breakfast at our renowned coffee shop, Miss Barrett’s, which, incidentally has just received it’s 2nd.”Certificate of Excellence” from Trip Advisor. How good is that!

"Field and Fun Day” cancelled.

Good morning all,

Well there you go, it’s Tuesday and not Monday morning! Doesn’t time fly. Anyway, it will all finish up the same I guess.

Now firstly, I have to let you know that our local “Field and Fun Day” has had to be cancelled. It was decided at our meeting Friday night that all things considered we had no option.

Yes we’re disappointed too, and the Wilcannia Gift, Photo Competition, and a bit more will be achieved later in the year.

So, if you read this really quickly and are near Menindee, the Biggest Morning Tea is on there today. If you miss it don’t despair the Broken Hill Biggest Morning tea is on at the City Library on Wednesday.

Up at Bourke, the PV Jandra is still cruising up and down the river each day, and of course as I said last week, there’s heaps going on up in that neck of the woods. And don’t forget the Louth Field Day on the 9th. June, and to fill in the gap of the 10th. June you can go down to Ivanhoe and have a heap of fun at the Ivanhoe Pig Comp.

Biggest Morning Teas, Campdraft/Gymkhana and more

Good morning everyone,

It’s really happening everywhere next weekend, and I have attached some flyers for you to print off if you wish. I have included the Bourke Media release by Ross Earl, Bourke Shire as an example of initiative to showcase Tourism in their Shire. Great idea. Also a list of exhibitors coming to our Wilcannia Field Day on the 10th. next month and any others wanting to showcase their products are more than welcome.

Now, we have the Topar Campdraft/Gymkhana on next Saturday and Sunday. You can go out to the White Cliffs Music Festival next Friday through to Monday, 4 day event. And there’s an enormous Tea Party taking place on the “PS Ruby” down at Wentworth on next Saturday and Sunday. You will have to call on the girls at the Visitors Info. Centre in Wentworth and they will give you the full itinerary.

Closer in at Menindee, is “beef and Guinness shepherd’s pie on the menu at Maiden’s Hotel on Thursday night and the “Biggest Morning Teas” are starting again with Menindee on the 22nd. and one in Broken Hill on the 23rd. And if you would enjoy a bit of fun then the “Penrose Park Picnic Train” is operating on the 20th. next Sunday.

Enjoyable walks along the river

There are a number of enjoyable walking and jogging tracks along the river that also offer some great photo opportunities.

The river can be viewed from Baker Park, in Reid Street, and if you stand in the right spot, a few feet from the foot of the yellow stairs looking downstream, you can get a photo of the old bridge without the new one being visible.

Steamers Point, on traditional Barkindji land, is on the right had side of the Tilpa road adjacent to the Golf Course, and again offers some great photo and bird watching opportunities.

Miners Race Meeting, Topar Gymkhana and more

Hello all,

Big weekend just gone, Agfair in Broken Hill, heaps of people, caught up with old friends. Show time in Cobar, I’m sure equally well attended. And just more and more coming up.

Had a coach load of fantastic people from Wagga through town last week, we had a ball and sent them on their way knowing a lot more about our little town.

Cobar again next Saturday, with their “Miners Race Meeting, if you’re into the horses. Then on Sunday is of course Mothers Day. Don’t forget the pressie! And there are luncheons on at the Wilcannia Golf Club, (best chinese food in NSW!), Menindee Mother’s Day Stall and luncheon, Wentworth Botanic Gardens Luncheon, and no doubt many other centres.

We then move on to the next weekend, 19/20th. and there’s the Topar Gymkhana, they’ll have a great couple of days, and would you believe, the White Cliffs Music Festival is running from the 18th. till the 21st. 4 full days of fun and music.

Now the “Creative Workshops are running in Wentworth during May, so if you are any way creative go and have a chat to the lovely girls at the Wentworth Visitors Centre and they will point you in the right direction.
