White Cliffs Pot Luck Dinner, Poetry on a Plate, The Broken Heel Festival, and more

Good morning everyone,

Our son rang the other night and said “Dad have you changed the battery in your smoke alarm?” I said “why should I?” He said “you should always change it with every new Prime Minister!”

Anyway, I didn’t. I’ll wait for the next one.

You can still make the “Pot Luck Dinner” at White Cliffs on Wednesday, just take along something and it will happen. Then stay around for the Father’s Day roast lunch at the Sport’s club.

A big evening at Silverton too next Saturday, probably make a full day of it for “Arias in the Outback”, I’d book too if I were you, it will be a big night.

Down at Menindee meanwhile, there’s the Father’s Day Fishing Challenge, over the 1st. and 2nd. full weekend of Fun.

Up at Bourke, there’s the “Bourke Wharf Market Day” on next Saturday, heaps of stalls. By the way, do you know what WHARF stands for?  It’s an old English one, “WareHouse And River Facilities”.

Trivia for the day! And starting tomorrow in Bourke is “Poetry on a Plate”, goes on till the 7th. Oct.

Graeme Connors in White Cliffs, Arias in the Outback, and more ...

Good morning all,

The weather is certainly predictable, unfortunately. As some of you caravaners  and travellers are no doubt sheep and cropping couples from way back, you would understand the seriousness of the drought from here to Woop Woop. And unfortunately the supply of available feed for stock is disappearing. So as well as stopping in our towns and having a yarn, stop on the road if you see a “cocky” feeding his stock and have a yarn, he needs it.

Now, next Saturday/Sunday is the famed Wentworth Show. If you’re anywhere near, say 200 km. have the weekend in Wentworth. Then you’re ready to head up to Menindee for the “Fathers Day Fishing Challenge”. Full weekend there and plenty to do.

On the Saturday is a Gala Music Night at  Silverton, poster attached. You can’t be at both so who likes Fishing and who likes music!!.

In between those, if you are near White Cliffs, they are having a “pot luck dinner” on Wednesday 29th. for the drought appeal, you know, talking about it above. Then on Fathers Day up at the opal city as well there’s a roast lunch on at the Sporting Club.

Moving on, down in ‘the inside country’ the Blue Heeler Film Festival is taking up the 22nd. September at Denman. Great little town. And from one side of the state to the other, but put this in your diary or GPS, Graeme Conners will be in WHITE CLIFFS for a concert on the 20th. October.

Ivanhoe Rodeo and Gymkhana, Wentworth Show and more ...

Good morning all,

Big thank you to Fiona for so capably filling in for me last week. “On the wallaby” once again, had to go a long way to find a bit of green feed though.

A very limited programme for you all this week, and great excitement in our little town at the moment, our “wonderful women’s team” and the Boomerangs both won their Rugby League Grand Finals in the Hill yesterday. A fantastic effort for both teams to wind up a great season.

Next weekend is the Ivanhoe Rodeo and Gymkhana, if you can make it you’ll enjoy it for sure.

Following weekend, the 25/26th. is the Wentworth Show, known far and wide, so try and make it there. Head back up the river then to Menindee for the big Father’s day Fishing Challenge, a 2 Day fun for all weekend. Of course that’s the 1/2nd. September.

You only have to head off along the bitumen then to Broken Hill to become engrossed in the Broken Heel Festival the following Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Very big weekend in the Silver City.

Annual Louth Races, “Out of the Ordinary Outback”, and ...

Hello all,

In the absence of our President, this week will be a brief rehash of last weeks This 'n' That.

Kicking off the week in Nyngan for the  Ag. Expo Saturday, a really big day at Nyngan for all.

Meanwhile way over the other side of the state, we have the “Sunraysia Safari Rally” happening at Wentworth from the 7th. to the 11th. and very popular.

Also of course on the 11th. is the Annual Louth Races. Thousands of people end up there and have a ball.

Back to Wentworth  on the 18th. and the Race Club there is holding a “Vegas Night”, if you are anywhere near. If you are there then you should stay on and go to the Wentworth Show, it’s on the 25th./ 26th. and is one of the best Ivanhoe Gymkhana and Rodeo on the 18th and 19th of August.
