Heavy rain, Pooncarie Show, White Cliffs Music Festival and more

Hello all,

Wilcannia has been the hottest town in the state countless times, but I’ve never before known us to top the state with RAINFALL!! Even made the Land newspaper, 63 mm. In one night, wow.

And speaking of the Land, did you see young Jack Siemer on the cover page, well done Tennille. What a fantastic rain for those who were under it, and we hope it will level out in the next week or two, as Broken Hill area is still waiting.

White Cliffs have had their week end and no doubt went well. Anzac Day all done and dusted and now we look towards May for the next round of activities.

By the way, we are in dire need of an energetic couple who would like to open up a coffee shop here in Wilcannia. We had 2 and were totally spoilt, and now we have none. A very lucrative business for the right persons.

May starts off with the Pooncarie Show next Saturday if you can make it. Actually we are having our “Clean up Aust. Day”, (too hot in March) next Saturday also, all are welcome.

Of course the next Sunday is Mothers Day, remember to take the coffee to the bedroom, oh well!. Then on the 18th./19th. the annual Topar Gymkhana is happening and all are welcome. By the way, a bit of trivia, Topar Hotel has the cheapest fuel price that I’ve seen in the western area, 142 cents unleaded.

Also on that weekend, 17th. to 19th. is the White Cliffs Music Festival. It just hasn’t stopped at White Cliffs lately.

The Wentworth Mounted Games, Driver Reviver Caravan, and more

Hello everyone,

It’s getting harder to present an optimistic road ahead. But then if you visualise the handful of willing workers in each of our outback towns and villages who put in tireless hours to make entertainment of all sorts happen for us, then isn’t it fantastic to think we still have those sort of people. They make us proud.

It’s those handful who are making the following events possible for you and I.

Next weekend is of course Easter. Now you can take your pick of “The Wentworth Mounted Games 20/21st. The big Wentworth Easter Garage Sale on Sunday. Or you can toodle on to Broken Hill for the Easter Sunday Market Day at Memorial Oval. OR, you can keep careering up the Silver City highway to the Packsaddle Gymkhana and Bikehana, it’s on both days 20/21st.

What a weekend. And if you pass through our little town, the Wilcannia Tourism Association is running the Driver Reviver Caravan for a break and cuppa for you on Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday. We’ll be there from 10 in the morning till 4 each afternoon. Also, close to our site is the caravan dumping site as we are an RV Friendly town. And don’t forget we have 2 really great caravan parks for you, and I hear a whisper  we soon will have a “Pop up” buy or swap book shop! More on that soon.

In between the weekend festivities, if you’re near Bourke, Jenny is opening the “Back O Bourke Gallery on the 19th. See the flyer attached and go on in and support her.

Next cab off the rank of course is Anzac Day, Thursday week. We here in Wilcannia will have an ex resident to pipe the march to the cenotaph for the 11 o’clock service. And please feel welcome to join in the service at any of our outback towns, we will always welcome you all.

Would you believe, the next week end is quite active too. We have a big Gun Shoot at Pooncarie over 2 days, 26/27th. Even if you’ve never shot a gun you’ll meet a heap of wonderful people.

And the same weekend is the White Cliffs Rodeo and Gymkhana, they’re having an event almost every week at White Cliffs so they know how to look after you.

The Cobar Grey Mardi Gras, The Packsaddle Gymkhana, and more

Hello all,

Won't talk about the weather, take no notice of it like a little boy and it might come into line!

Next weekend is actually a weekend and a half at Cobar. Remember the great ad's, "The Cobar Grey Mardi Gras". It's all happening in Cobar so let them entertain you.

We then have Easter upon us, and stretched from one end of the outback to the other is, "The Packsaddle Gymkhana and Bikehana", have a look at the brochure attached, it's all happening. Leroy will look after you at the roadhouse and a jammed packed 2 day programme.

Then, down the bottom, Wentworth of course is another packed weekend of festivities. You can't go to both so decisions, decisions!

Following on from that we have the big Pooncarie Gun Shoot, a 2 day event with clay shooters coming from near and far.

However, you'll have to all split up because White Cliffs needs a team of you to head up to their Rodeo and Gymkhana on that same weekend 26/27.

Now of course, this is over the Easter weekend, and just to help you all on your way, the Wilcannia driver Reviver caravan is going to be operating on Good Friday, Easter Saturday, and Easter Monday, 10 AM to 4 PM each day. So please drop in, have a coffee and a laugh, both free! And tell us the latest gossip and the latest joke! Love to see you.

Cobb Hwy caution, Pooncarie 2 Day Gun Shoot and more

Hello all,

What a fantastic evening at the White Cliffs “One Day Closer”, and what a great job the organisers did. I think about 300 enjoyed themselves. Well done White Cliffs, as always.

Bit of rain about in the last few days, If you’re heading along the Cobb highway, just be careful down where the road works is happening, probably a few deep tracks.

Back to the round up for the next week or two, we head to the “inside country”. If you’re near Denman next Saturday, the Community Markets are on, and they will look after you. Mind you we were through there a week or 2 back and it’s just as dry as everywhere else, not good.

Now the 12/13th. sees the “Cobar Grey Mardi Gras”. Remember the attachments, a really big couple of days at Cobar, you’ll enjoy it.

If you go to Cobar, you won’t make it to the “Outdoor Movie night” at the Coomealla Golf Club, it’s on the evening of the 14th.. Check with those lovely ladies at the Wentworth Visitors Centre, they’ll point you in the right direction. And they’ll tell you all about the “Wentworth Mounted Games”. This sounds like a fun weekend, and it’s for everyone. And would you believe there’s an Easter Garage Sale on the 21st. in Wentworth as well, take the lot in.

Hang around that area, because, the big Pooncarie 2 Day Gun Shoot is on the 26/27th. It brings shooters from hell west and crooked. A really recognised day.
