Pig Hunting Competition, Dee Sammon’s “pop up” book exchange

Good morning all,

Sorry about no communication last Monday, had a great time with the grand kids though!

Haven’t things changed in a few weeks, virtually no ‘roos on the roads, few wet roads though and green to be seen everywhere. Even though there are areas still waiting.

Congratulations to the community of White Cliffs, the Music Festival. Topar willing workers, the Campdraft. And the Menindee community, I believe dancing on the Darling was fantastic.

I’m a wee bit out of touch with happenings, but will catch up I’m sure. We have a big event at Ivanhoe on the long weekend, the “Pig Hunting Competition” with 13 categories would you believe. You’ll definitely enjoy the weekend there.

If you’re travelling through our little town here on the long weekend, then stop off and have a break at our Driver Reviver caravan on the highway and have a chat. It will be open on the Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Also when passing through Wilcannia, be sure to stop and check our newest business, De Sammon’s “pop up” book exchange, it’s at the Wilcannia Motel, and she’s more than happy to swap books with you. See the attachment. Duck in and have a look.

Looking down the track, don’t forget the Milparinka Gymkhana on the weekend of July 11th. And we’ll fill in between for you next week.

Dancing on the Darling, Topar Gymkhana and more

Good morning everyone,

My apologies to the "inside country" people this week as I don't have access to all your happenings, (my limited technology).

So, in our local area, the far west we have a host of happenings for those who are out in our wonderful "green" country. What a welcome change.

Next weekend of course is our duty to vote someone into Parliament. Best of luck there. If you are near White Cliffs they have a polling booth there next Thursday and Friday for your  convenience. It would be silly not to stay on for their Music Festival then which is Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Big weekend in White Cliffs.

Would you believe an equally big weekend at Topar, the gang over there are having the Annual Topar Gymkhana, on next Friday and Saturday, support them if you're in the area, but vote before hand or your favourite pollie will miss out.

The following weekend, the 25th. 26th. All roads lead to Menindee, where a group on staunch workers are holding the "Dancing on the Darling", to bring all together to have a "forget your troubles" weekend. Music, entertainment, and hospality for all, free camping, what else could you want.

Now just before that, if you're in the Broken Hill area, why not go along to see "Alice in Wonderland" at the Civic Centre on the 23rd. Sounds like a really good night.

That just about runs us out of May for the out back area, make sure you check out the Information Centres elsewhere, 'cause there's heaps of activities going on down Wentworth/Mildura way, Bourke/Cobar/Nyngan way, all over the place. I'll have those areas for you next week.

If you are travelling through our little town here at Wilcannia, remember we have 2 caravan parks to welcome you, 2 Motels, and of course we are an RV friendly town, so we cater for your caravan waste and can supply you with a top up of potable water.

Topar Gymkhana, Back O Bourke Gallery and more

Good morning all,

What a fantastic difference to see a tinge of green grass everywhere. And yet listening to "Macca" this morning, there are many many areas that have missed out still. When you see it raining you tend to take for granted it's widespread.

You better pop in and buy a card this week, it will go with the tea and toast for mum next Sunday morning! Maybe bacon and eggs?

Anyway, the weekend after, the 18th./19th. is a big weekend at the Topar pub. The band of willing workers around there are staging the "Topar Gymkhana", so see if you can make it. If on the other hand you're not into horses and telling tall yarns, then head to White Cliffs, sit back for 3 whole days, 17th. to 19th. and be entertained with music and hospitality. Don't forget to vote though before you go to either, polling booths are scarce out this neck of the woods.

The next event for the month is the next weekend at Menindee. 2 full days, 25th. 26th. of music laughter and give ways and it's called "Dancing on the Darling". They will look after you down there.

If you're up in the top end of the "outback" then the "Back O Bourke Gallery" is in full swing, as is a dozen other things up at Bourke to entertain you.

Sorry to mention the war but the election is a fact of life at the moment.

If you are enrolled in a NSW Electorate you can vote at the White Cliffs Community Hall Mobile Polling Booth on Thursday 16th May from 12.30pm to 3.30pm.

I have attached a list of other early voting centres plus a list of where interstate visitors can vote on election day. For around the Central Darling area the only interstate booth will be at Broken Hill.
