Tibooburra's Butchering and Golf Day, Louth's The big Race, and more

Good morning all,

Here we go again, and would you believe a very slight chance of rain along the way.

Ever wondered how they come up with all those cuts of beef? All nicely placed on a styrene tray! If you play golf, ever wondered why you are still too close to the ball after you’ve hit it!??

The answers to all of the above is revealed up at Tibooburra next Saturday. If you can possibly make it up there, you’ll have a ball, (or a steak!). Learn how to cut up a beast or how to hold a golf club.

Great day out, and be sure to have a beer with Fen.

If it’s too far a hike for you, then head for the Nyngan Ag. Expo, bet you’ll find someone you know. Heaps of people there you’ll find and  it’s next Saturday too.

From Nyngan, after the AG. Expo, you head to Cobar, have a yarn to the great staff at the Cobar Museum, and then just head straight to Louth. The big Race meeting of the outback is on there the next Saturday the 10th. Go to the pub and tell Cathy I sent you. That should be worth a free beer!!!

Don’t forget our little township here at Wilcannia is still looking for a couple to open a “Coffee Shop” for us. Talk about caffeine withdrawal symptoms! We’re in a bad way!!

Wilga Campground, Nyngan Ag. Expo and more

Good morning all,

What a great day in Tilpa on Saturday, kids on horses everywhere, parents catching up, and as at any such do, a little group keeping the ball rolling.

An unexpected fire on a near by property took the immediate attention of some expert hands in that field, and then all was back to normal!

Anyway, if you travel between Wilcannia and Tilpa be sure to go on the eastern side of the river, the road s just superb! If you’re not in a hurry, stop off at the Wilga Campground, right on the bend of the river, throw in a line or 2, stranger things have happened, beautiful spot.

Next on the “ places to be” list is the Wentworth Fishing Comp. It’s on next Saturday, but there’s heaps of other things on down in that neck of the woods. Call on the girls at the V. I. C. and they’ll take over for you. And as I said last week, if you don’t make Wentworth stop off at the Annual Gun Shoot at Pooncarie on the same day.

Now Tibooburra is having a “Butchering and Golf Day” on the 3rd. August. It sounds good and that crew up there know how to stage a show for you, so why not check it out.

You definitely can’t be at Tibooburra and Nyngan at the same time, so there’s a great day out at Nyngan on the 3rd. as well. They’re “Nyngan Ag. Expo”. Definitely heaps to see and do there.

Tilpa Annual Gymkhana, and more

Good morning once again,

Saw a long term weather prediction on TV tonight, don’t think you have to worry about wet roads for quite some time unfortunately. Things really are getting serious in the water situation throughout a few states.

Anyway, if you are undecided where to go next? Problem solved! Head to Tilpa for next Saturday’s Annual Gymkhana. All are welcome. Then down the bottom end of that very same river at Wentworth, there’s a big Fishing Comp on the next Saturday the 27th. Of course there’s a heap happening down in the Wentworth/Mildura area all the time, so poke on down and see for yourself.

If you don’t make it that far then stop off at Pooncarie and go to their big Gun Shoot on the same day, 27th.

Moving right along, there’s the Louth races on the 10th  August. The Wentworth Show on the 24/25th. August. And the Tibooburra Gymkhana placed at October 5th.

Not a lot of changes since last week, so enjoy yourselves in the lovely sunshine, feel free to ring me from our website if I can help.

Tilpa Gymkhana 20th July, Pooncarie Gun Club Shoot, and more

Good morning all,

First of all I must apologise for an error last week. The Tilpa Gymkhana is definitely on the 20th. !! So, Saturday week, not the 13th. So why not get your mind in the horse mode and head to Tilpa, great day and water in the river too.

Back to basics now, and speaking of horses, the Milparinka Gymkhana is happening next week end being the 13th. However they tell me there’s heaps of party goers arriving on Wednesday, so sounds like a big few days up at Milparinka.

Then there’s the Big Red Bash further on up at Birdsville on the 16th. to 18th. Music for everyone, and hospitality unlimited.

If you miss Tilpa on the 20th. then you may be close to Broken Hill and take in “A Touch of Ireland” at the Civic Centre on the 21st. That may be a book job to be sure.

Toodle on down to Pooncarie for their big Gun Club Shoot on the next weekend the 27th. And on down to Wentworth where there’s things happening all the time. River cruises, fishing and heaps more. Again, ask them girls at the VIC.

You need to be around Nyngan later to be part of their “Ag Expo”. It’s on the 3rd. August, and then head up to Bourke, see the old Crosley engine fired up each day and all the other great things going on in Bourke..

Our big news here is, the Wilcannia weir is definitely going ahead with first stage done and moving on. More on that next week. And the Cobb highway is getting “blacker” by the week!! Another section already started.

Milparinka Gymkhana, Paddle steamer open day and more

Good morning all,

And we thought we were finished with dust storms! All over the “top end” country and further in. Makes you wonder what’s ahead.

Big apology from last week, the Milparinka Gymkhana is actually on the 13th. not as I suggested the 11th. However, everyone is going to be there for ‘a shindig’ on the Wednesday 10th. So start heading that way, pack some supplies, ‘cause you have to keep going after the Gymkhana, say good bye to Cheryl and head on up, see Jacko at Tibooburra, have a beer with Fen at ‘the corner’ and  you’ll just be in time for “The Big Red Bash” at Birdsville. Now that’s on the 16th. to 18th. Once you get through that week of fun you could probably poke on and have a look at Lake Eyre. Not that much further, really.

If you dropped out of the above and headed back, then you may be interested in a stop over in “the Hill” and have some good Irish culture at the Civic Centre on the 21st. with “A Taste of Ireland”.

Don’t want to go out to the ‘outback’, then all you have to do is head to Wentworth, see the girls at the Visitors Centre and they will guide you. There’s so much going on down there I can’t fit it in.

P S Ruby, Paddle steamer open day launch, on the 6th. next Saturday, and then there’s Tractor Train Tours, River cruises ,Fishing Comps, Celtic Trio playing at the Wentie town hall on the 13th. and just heaps more to do. By the time you relax after all that you can head up to Pooncarie and support them at their “Gun Club Shoot” on the 27th., great little town.

Moving across to Deniliquin, on ‘the southern line’. If you’re a movie buff, you can see “Shrek the Third” at the RSL Club on the 12th. and then the monster Quilt Show Biennial Exhibition from the 12th. to the 14th. at the Denni. High School. In amongst all  this, if you happen to be passing through Wilcannia, please stop in, have a yarn and call in to the Wilcannia Motel, it’s on the highway, have a yarn to De. And check out her fantastic book exchange. She has a “pop-up” Book exchange there, you’ll enjoy a yarn to her. We can’t offer you a chinese meal at the Golf Club yet, under repairs, but “Opening Day” for a fully refurbished Dining Room is the 24th.
