Pooncarie Cup Meeting, 5 Rivers Celebrations and more

Good morning all,

Unfortunately you all have no hope of attending all that’s on in the next few weeks! Things are really ramping up!

First up is “The Sapphires” performing at the Civic Centre in Broken Hill on Tuesday night, can you make it?? If you do then pop round to the Visitors Centre to see what else is on in the “Hill”. And thanks heaps for your kind words Patrick, you and yours are doing just as good a job.

If you’re a horse lover then rush down to Pooncarie, they will treat you as royalty for their big “Pooncarie Cup Meeting” on Saturday. Then you can drop in to “Bindara” on the Darling for the night and head for Ivanhoe, the quickest possible way. You see, Allan and Mark and their helpers have one helliva day on for everyone on Sunday the 6th. They will have the biggest collection of old and vintage cars, trucks, tractors, you name it, if it’s old  it will be there! I’m not game to go, I might be put on display! Please support this if you can. These boys have gone all out.

This is hard for me, ‘cause the Tibooburra community are having a “Gymkhana and Bikekhana” on that very same weekend! Where ever you go have a ball.

Once you get over all that, Balranald is the place to be the next week end. 11th. to 13th. is the “5  Rivers Celebrations “ at the little town, it’s over 3 days so fun for all. However, you’ll have to choose again! ‘cause that same weekend the 12th. is the “Fort Courage Fishing Competition” down at Wentworth. Actually there’s heaps going on down round Wentworth so just drop in to the lovely ladies at the VIC, they’ll send you all sorts of places!

Tibooburra Gymkhana, 5 Rivers Festival and more

Good morning all,

A big thanks again to my trusty secretary Fiona, she’s more interesting than me really!

Now we seem to be moving on into October with coming events. Starting with the big weekend at Tibooburra on the 4th. to 6th. (long week end). It’s their big Gymkhana week end and fun for all.

If you are out of reach of Tibooburra, then try to make it to Ivanhoe on the 5th. (Sunday). A couple of the local lads down there are organising a Vintage truck, car etc. show in the little town and you can be sure it will be a good day out, say nothing of the night! So, one or the other.

The next week end is Balranald’s turn the 11th. to the 13th.. They are having a whopper of a festival down there, called the “5 Rivers Festival”. Please check the brochure attached, and better still print it off and show everyone. Or just turn up at the visitors centre and see Kirstyn, the rest is simple!

Moving on to the 26th. you can be part of “Arias in the outback” at the Civic centre in Broken Hill, starting at 7 PM, and sponsored by the Broken Hill Council and the Silverton Pub.

However, happening on that same week end is the “Festival of the Miners Ghost”, and where else but of course, Cobar. Happening from the 25th. to 27th. again see attached.

If you’re that close to Bourke, duck up and have a look at the Back ‘O Bourke Gallery and all the other attractions they have up there.

Silver City Show, Farm Stays, and more

Apologies for my tardiness in posting this feature, Our President is still on the road after a trip to the inside country for a catch up with some former residents of Wilcannia. A surprise party was in in order and apparently lived up to all expectation.

Hot on 'The Heel' of this past weekends festivities in Broken Hill, yet another weekend of fun is to be had in Broken Hill. Presenting the Silver City Show on the 19th, 20th, 21st, enjoy a day and evening out at the “Silver City Show”. You can’t beat a good old fashioned country show.

Wilcannia will be holding a belated, 'Clean up Australia Day' this Saturday, registration at Baker Park 9am. Focus area will be on the Barrier Highway, East of the township.

There’s a Fishing Comp. happening at Wentworth on the 21st. And the best way to enjoy that is a relaxing drive down the Darling. Start wherever you like, take in Nelia Gaari Farm stay, Menindee, drop out to Kinchega for a look. Toodle on down to the Arnold family at Bindara Farm Stay, a day or two here and there and you’re in Wentworth and more fun!

Going north of course you have the evergreen Tilpa, Kallara Farm Stay, on up to Louth, have a yarn to Cathy at the pub. Now you’re in “Trilby” country and heaps to do all the way to Bourke. Make sure you go to the “Back ‘O Bourke Gallery and see Jenny Greentree’s Art Exhibition too, it’s still going.

Broken Heel Festival, “Back ‘O Bourke Gallery and more

Good morning all,

Bush fires, dust and cold weather, where are we heading. Our hearts certainly go out to those people who have lost their total possessions in the fires up north.

I won’t even try to guess what this week is likely to bring. It certainly reminds me of the ’65-’66-’67 era.

Moving on though, Broken Hill is presenting the “Broken Heel Festival” over the 13th./14th./15th., and in the middle of that (14th.) you can enjoy a day and evening out at the “Silver City Show”. You can’t beat a good old fashioned country show.

Lee Kernaghan will be at his ever best at the Civic Centre in the Hill too, on the 22nd. Which takes us up to the end of the month and you all head to Tibooburra for their big Gymkhana etc. on the 4th. to the 6th. October. A big weekend.

Wanganella Ball

Date & Time:
Saturday, September 14, 2019 - 7:00pm to Sunday, September 15, 2019 - 12:00am

Only 2 weeks to go, book a ticket to the Wanganella Ball.

Last year the Wanganella community decided we needed a night to let our hair down and swap the work boots for some formal wear so we hosted the inaugural Wanganella Ball and it was a massive hit. lt was such a fantastic night that we have decided to do it all over again this year.

Event type:

see Milparinka, Sunraysia Safari Rally, and more

Good morning everyone,

What a trip we had! John and I headed for Tibooburra last Thursday in the trusty Hilux, wonderful people, great places.

When you’re heading up to the Birdsville Races for next Saturday, be sure to stop in and say hi to Mia at the Packsaddle Roadhouse, what a place! And you must go ‘off the beaten track’ by about a ‘hop, step and jump’ and see Milparinka, great place, top people 3 planes parked outside the Pub, pilots inside drinking  “can’t fly medicine”. Great blokes, heading to the Betoota Races.

You’ve missed them so catch up at Birdsville.

Now wait, there’s more going on. If you’re in Broken Hill, have a look round, do a tour with Tri State, and go along to the Sapphires at the Civic Centre on Wednesday evening. Then fill in some more time in the Silver City, slip out to Mt. Gipps for a drink and a meal and then enjoy Steve Eales at the Silverton Pub next Sunday. You don’t even have to think!

Why don’t you toodle down to Wentworth then and catch a glimpse of the “Sunraysia Safari Rally”, it’s covering 5 days from 10th. to 14th. But make sure you stop in at the Coomba Roadhouse and have a coffee and a yarn. Both ways actually as you have to be back in the Hill for the “Broken Heel festival”, 13th. to 15th. and be sure to check out the Broken hill Show, it’s on the 14th.
