Dirt roads mostly passable, Menindee Fishing Comp

Hello everyone,

Bit of a mishap last week me thinks, really don’t know who got my little ‘epistle’ and who didn’t. Anyway here we go again.

Was great to catch up with my friends in Cobar, Nyngan and Dubbo this weekend. Of course catching up can sometimes bring sadness, and our thoughts are with Glad and Meg on their sad losses.

Now that the dirt roads are mostly passable, you should think about visiting some of our ‘Farmstays’.  All wonderful people and showing you first hand what life is really like on the land, ‘you’re not one of the crowd, you’re made feel important’.

Anyhow, if you’re down Ivanhoe way next Wednesday the Town and Country Ladies are having a fantastic lunch and arvo at the RSL Club. Something for everyone, check with the Club, and have a ball with those Ivanhoe girls.

Then as I said, the Menindee Fishing Comp is on next weekend. A full weekend of fun at Menindee, the river is up, heaps of fish, says me!

And the Menindee Yabbies Cabaret is on the 22nd. too, celebrating 40 years of the Yabbies.

If you can zoom across to Cobar then and starting on the 25th. (you can make it) is the “Cobar Festival of the Miner’s Ghost”. Now there’s a heap of things going on there all week, so you had better drop in to the lovely ladies at the Cobar Museum for some guidance. Check out the Museum too.

If your travels take you elsewhere, then Broken Hill, Bourke, Wentworth and all the other places, will welcome you. In fact if you like a bit of a ‘flutter’ on the horses, then the Silver City Cup is on in ‘the Hill’ on the 22nd. Big race day.

Temperature is all over the place this week so have fun trying to pick it! If you’re lucky enough to be here in our little town then enjoy a yarn and snack around the camp fire at Warrawong, and don’t forget our golf Club, (best Chinese anywhere.)

Be good to each other, and above all, have fun.  Cheers till next week,   Bill Elliott.   WCTA.
