Red Opal Cafe, Outback Tourism Awards

Hello everyone,

Who had ever heard of “feels like temperature” before now! Maybe I’m getting soft. They had the hide to say there’s another cold front coming through!!

Almost all roads are open, will only take 3 ¾ points to close most of them though. However, isn’t there a lot of activity everywhere. Travellers that is, and heaps for you all to take in.

Thanks heaps Randel for correcting my Opal Festival last week, you’ve got to keep an eye on me.

Before I forget, the Red Opal Cafe is closed in White Cliffs this week only. Meanwhile if you are in Menindee then the Beyond Cafe is still doing Sunday afternoon “smokos” compliments of the Central School kids, home cooked goodies till the end of the month.

Broken Hill is the place to be next weekend, Outback Tourism Awards on Saturday night, who’s gonna win? Strong competition too. You know how you can’t be in Broken Hill without going to Silverton, well you just can’t miss out on going out to the RFDS Base either. Wonderful people, sit in a theatrette and hear and see the Flying Doctor story and actually see how it really happens. Some really good souvenirs there for you as well. (I’m eternally grateful to spellcheck). So keep that in mind when passing through “the Hill”.

Lovely to hear from Margaret up at Bourke, she said apart from Sarah and Hullie, there’s heaps more going on up there. The Outback Show with Luke Thomas is on 10 AM Tues. to Sunday every week till 10th. Sept. Bullock team, trick horses, working dogs and lots more. Not only that but the Big Bourke Fishing Comp is coming up as well, 21/23rd. Aug. More on that later.

Back here in our little Wilcannia, we have the 125 year Anniversary of the Sisters of Mercy in town, it’s taking place on the 28th. Next Tuesday week. A lot of Mercy Sisters coming back and ex-students. Memorabilia for miles, and a great catch up. Catered for by our Julie Murphy, Miss Barrett’s, (who we stole from Bourke!!). So if you know of any Convent kids, let them know, be great to see you Michael.

The other big event to remember is the Nyngan Ag. Expo. What a day that always is and it’s on the 1st. Aug. That’s Saturday week, not far off.

Need some activities from the “bottom country” please. Hay, Balranald etc. we need to include you, and Murray and Sharon, send your patrons out to experience the Outback won’t you.

Anyway, as long as you keep listening to our fabulous Radio Stations, you know ‘em, 657, 999, 1584, 585. 567, and FM 103.1. You’ve got them. You can’t go wrong.

Dry roads, rug up, see it all, if you’re at Warrawong Wednesday night, love to meet you. Take care now,  Bill Elliott   WCTA.
