Wet roads, voting details, Field Day results

Good morning all,

I did say last week, find a good book and a warm spot! If this keeps up you best check the monkey as well. Look all’s well it’s winter time, the roads are wet but there’s still a lot happening.

Speaking of wet roads, it’s getting a bit persistent this rain, so be very careful when you decide to stop and boil the billy, don’t just pull over off the bitumen unless there is road base there. The road shoulders are very soft and you really don’t need to be getting yourself out of a bog this weather.

Don’t know if you can make it up to Brewarrina this coming weekend, it’s their Annual Field Day. Now by all accounts they put on a really good show and all are welcome. You could then toodle down the Darling to Bourke, because I have it on good authority that 4WD’s are streaming through Bourke already and they’re heading out to Birdsville. You see the “Big Red Concert” is on at Birdsville, on the edge of the lake, and is starting 3 PM next Monday and the fun goes till Wednesday, I guess the venue will depend on the weather. Lots of people going though.

If you’re not in that neck of the woods, you could  put in a bit of time at Silverton where they are making a film. Don’t ask me the name but it’s all happening in the little village, and of course you have to drop in to the local businesses and wash it all down with Peter and Patsy at the iconic Pub.

In case you are coming somewhere near our little town here, we have an excellent evening planned for you. It’s sort of like “Wilcannia Has Talent”, and it’s on Wednesday night at the hall. Plenty of accommodation in our little town, the best coffee you’ll find in the back country. If you’ve got tyre trouble, we can fix it! So why not have a laugh at the hall Wednesday night.

Heard something on the TV the other day about some ‘Election’ coming up!!. Yes, I know, only 5 more sleeps and we can watch TV again. Anyway I have attached a list of polling booths that you will be able to vote interstate at. Which does NOT include Wilcannia. So if you are travelling about, might pay to ensure you are able to cast your vote wherever you intend to be on Saturday.

Looking right on ahead, there’s a dinner and Movie night at the RSL Club in Ivanhoe on the 16th. “Dressmaker” is the movie. And if you can end up back in Ivanhoe 4 weeks later (14th. August) the “Quickshear” is on. Same venue I believe, RSL Club.

Now remember me talking about the Wilcannia Field and Fun Day? Seems now like ages ago. Well we still have 18 month calendars available, featuring local photos and a host of history on our town. They are $13- inc. postage. So if you would like one for old time sake, ring 0429915467, and the old bloke who answers will do his best to get one or more to you.

That’s it for this week, keep warm and don’t drive anywhere that’s going to embarrass you, ‘cause someone will always find out!

Have a great week, cheers,  Bill Elliott,    Wilcannia Tourism Ass.
