Miners Race Meeting, Topar Gymkhana and more

Hello all,

Big weekend just gone, Agfair in Broken Hill, heaps of people, caught up with old friends. Show time in Cobar, I’m sure equally well attended. And just more and more coming up.

Had a coach load of fantastic people from Wagga through town last week, we had a ball and sent them on their way knowing a lot more about our little town.

Cobar again next Saturday, with their “Miners Race Meeting, if you’re into the horses. Then on Sunday is of course Mothers Day. Don’t forget the pressie! And there are luncheons on at the Wilcannia Golf Club, (best chinese food in NSW!), Menindee Mother’s Day Stall and luncheon, Wentworth Botanic Gardens Luncheon, and no doubt many other centres.

We then move on to the next weekend, 19/20th. and there’s the Topar Gymkhana, they’ll have a great couple of days, and would you believe, the White Cliffs Music Festival is running from the 18th. till the 21st. 4 full days of fun and music.

Now the “Creative Workshops are running in Wentworth during May, so if you are any way creative go and have a chat to the lovely girls at the Wentworth Visitors Centre and they will point you in the right direction.

It’s all happening up at Bourke too. They are in full winter swing, see attached poster, as they have the Paddle Steamer “PV Jandra” taking cruises 6 days a week and as per poster they have the “All New Outback Show” at the Back O Bourke Centre, also running 6 days a week. There’s heaps more going on in Bourke as well you know.

Moving on there’s the Wagga “Antiques and Collectables Fair” on the 26/27th. if you’re heading down that way. And back over here in “the Hill”, we have the Community Markets on the 12th. and the Penrose Picnic Train on the 20th.

Of course if you’re still kicking round Broken Hill, then duck out to the RFDS Base, heaps to see out there, it’s a great outfit and you can sit in on a “School of the Air lesson” as well. See how these outback kids are taught their school lessons.

Little reminder, our little town here is now an “RV Friendly” town. So we have a caravan Dump Point for your convenience right on the highway here in Wilcannia, and please stop off and have a look round all our old sandstone buildings. In any case you’ll have to make it here on the June long weekend and come along to our “Field and Fun Day”. There’ll be something for everyone with over 20 exhibitors as well as all the demonstrations etc. Duck up to Louth for their Field Day on the Saturday, what about that?

So, have a great week, mobs of vans moving through now, stop in and say hi.  Till next week,  cheers, Bill Elliott.   WCTA.
